Dinosaur Puzzle Delights GrandsonJan 05, 2012
By mmurray Our three year old grandson loved this puzzle. Not only did he delight in the dinosaur, but he loved the box. The pieces were easy for him to work with and achieve success in placing and are sturdy enough to stand up to a three year old's not always so gentle play. This very active child was delighted with his ability to place the pieces correctly, but even more important, it allowed him to focus and concentrate on staying in one place to accomplish a task.

Good Dinosaur Puzzle!Oct 19, 2011

This is a fairly large puzzle suitable for pre-school age children. My daughter, age 3.5, really likes it and finds it appropriately challenging. At 20" X 27" and 36 pieces, it is a good size for her. The pieces themselves are roughly 3" X 4", which are easy to manipulate with small hands. This is a great puzzle for those who want to graduate from the very small and simple puzzles for toddlers.
It should be noted that while T. Rex adorns the front of the box, the picture on the puzzle itself has many other dinosaur friends sharing the space. I question whether the colors and scale are scientifically accurate, but the artwork is pleasing and colorful. The materials are of standard puzzle fare, but the cardboard base is thick and sturdy, and the finish is glossy on both front and back. The pieces fit together tightly. The box the puzzle comes in is surprisingly stiff, which is nice as my girl has already used it as a seat cushion; it has thus far stubbornly refused to collapse, which is nice. The shape of the box is nice, too, pleasingly asymmetrical. The overall picture is on the back of the box, but is on the small side, for those looking for details to match the pieces. This is my only criticism of an overall excellent and entertaining puzzle.
There is sufficient detail on the picture (a Tim Barnes illustration) to make completion challenging without being frustrating. This is also good for parents who enjoy joining in their children's activities (as this daddy does) because it presents a significant developmental step up from shape puzzles consisting of five pieces or less - which can tax even this daddy's admittedly short attention span.
There are other puzzles in the series, too, and they are similarly well-built and attractive. Puzzles are a great way for children to play independently and further develop their problem-solving and fine motor skills. As puzzles go, I can recommend this one for its attractiveness, quality, and relative complexity appropriate to age.
