prehistoric funJan 22, 2011
By The Delite Rancher The Safari Ltd ichthyosaurus replica is very well done. It is not only hand painted but the coloring on the eight inch marine reptile imagines a realistic appearance. The creature is seen eating a favorite meal, an unlucky ammonite. The artistic inspiration probably draws on a well-known painting in London's Natural History Museum. This replica comes with a clear plastic stand. As a toy, this ichthyosaurus is very sturdy. Since it can endure an attack from a tylosaurus, it will easily manage punishment from the hands of the youngest of children. This is part of a series of high-quality prehistoric replicas as envisioned by paleontologists in the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. The various extinct reptiles in this set are sized to scale, so the young dino enthusiast can put the replicas side-by-side to better imagine prehistoric life. Celebrate the creature that once terrorized the seas with the Safari ichthyosaurus replica.

Kids were not impressed with this oneOct 20, 2011

"dad of boys"
My kids are into prehistoric marine reptiles after watching Chased by Sea Monsters - 7 deadliest seas and National Geographic's Sea Monsters. We have almost all the prehistoric marine reptiles by Safari, Bullyland and other manufacturers. We like the ichthyosaurus by Bullyland. Somehow having something in this ichthyosaurus' mouth makes it less favorable to my kids even though it is believed that ichthyosaurus weren't fierce predators and did eat shellfish and ammonites etc. Just the way my kids play, I guess.
The color scheme for this ichthyosaurus is probably more accurate (and more dolphin-like) and more pleasing that the Bullyland one (sea green with dark stripes on upper body).
